Uwajima is a coastal city located in the southwestern part of Shikoku Island, and the west side of the city faces the Uwa Sea, characterized by a ria coast scenic beauty. On a clear and sunny day, you can see Kyushu in the distance.
On the east side of the city the 1000-meter-high mountains rise, a mountain range called Onigajo, which means devil's mountain. Uwajima is a wonderful city where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sea and mountains at the same time.
The climate of Shikoku is moderate, but it is not warm all year round, and we have snow every year in winter.
The dialects of the Uwajima region sound calmly and gently for people from other regions.
Uwajima holds a big festival called Uwajima Ushioni Festival in summer.
Usioni, or "bull demon" is believed to purify evils. Large Ushioni floats with a long neck and a demon-like face parade around the city and people worship them as a god of purification.
We named our enoki mushrooms "Ushioni Enoki" after Ushioni and an image of Ushioni is used on the package of our mushroom products.
Because Uwajima faces the mountains and the sea, there is not large land area for cultivation. Our predecessors built terraced fields to cultivated mandarin oranges, but these fields are so steep and narrow to be looked as if farmers were crawling on the mountains.
Thanks to tremendous efforts of our predecessors, mandarin oranges has become Ehime's representative agricultural product.
Uwajima is also famous for marine products such as cultural pearls and farmed sea breams. They are cultured in the sea where abundant nutrients roll in from the mountains.
Processed fish products such as "jakoten," a fried fish paste, and "kamaboko," boiled fish paste, are very popular nationwide.
Our company is located in the same mountains as the terraced fields of mandarin oranges.
Just as mandarin orange farmers have been working hard to make oranges in the steep fields, we are working hard toward the improvement with the spirit of providing health and happiness to all customers with our products.
